OTTAWA — Cara Zwibel, Director of Fundamental Freedoms for the Canadian Civil Liberties Association (CCLA), made the following remarks today following news that Premier Ford will seek a judicial review of his summons by the Public Order Emergency Commission:

It is extremely disappointing that Premier Ford and Minister Jones would challenge the summons in this manner.

The public order emergency commission is tasked with examining what led to the invocation of the Emergencies Act and learning lessons from its use.

That Ontario’s leadership is not only unwilling to assist but actively obstructing the commission’s work is an abdication of its responsibility to the people of Ontario.

We have seen this government resist transparency and accountability in many contexts, but this one is a particularly shocking example.
