The right to equality is particularly important for individuals and communities who have faced the worst forms of abuse and discrimination in Canada.

Indigenous peoples in Canada have experienced colonial and discriminatory practices from the horrifying residential schools program to underfunding of child welfare for children on reserve; from over-surveillance of Indigenous protestors, to racial profiling and disproportionately harsh treatment by the criminal system.
