Prior to the election, the government of Canada initiated a consultation on a proposed approach to addressing harmful content online – with a deadline for submitting feedback five short days after the election. CCLA, along with other civil society actors and subject-matter experts, objected to the continuation of the consultation during the election period and asked the government to extend the time, to no avail. CCLA made a brief written submission to the consultation but we will have much more to say on this issue as the government moves forward with any new legislation or regulatory scheme.
