CCLA contributes to consultations on Ontario’s AI Framework

By June 4, 2021June 3rd, 2022No Comments

CCLA was pleased to have the opportunity to participate in the Ontario government’s consultation on Trustworthy AI. We addressed the key elements of the proposed framework, emphasising the need for transparency, accountability, and an effective and enforceable legal framework to govern uses of artificial intelligence in the public and private sector.

We also called for meaningful community consultation regarding the potential prohibiting of AI in certain use cases where vulnerable populations are at an extremely high risk of bias. The threshold for what constitutes “extremely high risk” will require consultation with Indigenous, Black, and other communities who regularly experience systemic discrimination in order to set that boundary appropriately, given the serious threats that automated-decision making may pose to vulnerable populations.
