The Canadian Civil Liberties Association (CCLA) announced today the appointment of its new Executive Director and General Counsel Noa Mendelsohn Aviv.

Noa Mendelsohn Aviv has been with the CCLA since 2002, during which time she has led educational, public and advocacy efforts against Bill 21, solitary confinement, racial profiling, initiatives in support of abortion access, freedom of expression, the rights of refugees and religious freedoms.

“We are delighted to have Noa in this critical role for our organization and for the stakeholders that it serves. Noa brings a wealth of talent, experience, focus and energy to the CCLA’s fight for justice,” said Andrew Lokan, Chair of the Board of Directors.

Mendelsohn Aviv, along with CCLA’s Board, acknowledge with gratitude the generosity of individual supporters, communities, lawyers, and funders who make this work possible.

“Now more than ever there is a need for freedom, justice, and equality for every person in Canada,” said Ms. Mendelsohn Aviv. “We have seen an outpouring of support for these values and for CCLA in recent times. Together with my remarkable colleagues, we look forward to growing the organization to take on more challenges, fight more rights violations, and to make CCLA a home for every individual and community who values human rights and fundamental freedoms.”
