We join you in solidarity with all women, girls, queer and trans people in the US &#8211; in particular those who are racialized and marginalized &#8211; who face grave dangers to their freedom, health, and safety. We join you in solidarity with queer and trans people whose physical safety and legal rights are in danger; and with women, girls, queer and trans people in New Brunswick whose right to access abortion has been restricted far too long.<\/p>\n<p>CCLA is here inspired by the many women, girls, queer, trans, and other people who have fought for reproductive justice and equality in Canada. This includes the heroic Dr. Henry Morgentaler whose personal experience as a Holocaust survivor led him to perform abortions to prevent terrible harms to women, and led him to commit his life to fighting for de-criminalization and access to abortion as a necessary and human right.<\/p>\n<p>The Canadian Civil Liberties Association has always fought for abortion rights, abortion access, and the right to choose. In January 2021, we took that fight to court against the New Brunswick government. Our case challenges Regulation 84-20 that creates a discriminatory and unconstitutional barrier to abortion access. This regulation excludes from healthcare coverage all abortions not done in three approved hospitals (in two cities) in the province.<\/p>\n<p>CCLA will fight as long as it takes to get rid of this barrier to abortion and to reproductive freedom.<\/p>\n<p>We applaud your activism and echo your messages to this government: Reproductive rights are human rights!\u00a0 Obstacles to abortion access cannot stand!
