Notre constitution impose des limites au pouvoir de punir de l'\u00c9tat. La peine de mort. Torture. Punition corporelle. Castration. Lobotomisation. le\u00a0Charte canadienne des droits et libert\u00e9s<\/em>\u00a0a prot\u00e9g\u00e9 les gens de ces formes de ch\u00e2timent parce qu'elles sont inacceptables dans tout syst\u00e8me juridique qui valorise la dignit\u00e9 humaine fondamentale.<\/p>\n

L'ACLC a comparu devant la Cour supr\u00eame en\u00a0R c Bissonnette<\/em>\u00a0de faire valoir que l'imposition d'une peine d'emprisonnement \u00e0 perp\u00e9tuit\u00e9, sans possibilit\u00e9 de lib\u00e9ration, est une forme excessive de ch\u00e2timent qui viole la dignit\u00e9 humaine fondamentale. Nos syst\u00e8mes judiciaire, p\u00e9nal et correctionnel doivent respecter la dignit\u00e9 humaine pour tous \u2013 c'est une pierre de touche centrale du\u00a0Charte<\/em>. Les condamnations \u00e0 perp\u00e9tuit\u00e9 irr\u00e9ductibles imposent une peine interminable - une peine qui ne se termine que par la propre mort du prisonnier. Un syst\u00e8me p\u00e9nal p\u00e9nal qui traite les gens comme des objets \u00e0 entreposer n'a pas sa place au Canada. Une sanction p\u00e9nale qui donne \u00e0 un juge le pouvoir de verrouiller la porte et de jeter la cl\u00e9, \u00e9liminant toute possibilit\u00e9 de lib\u00e9ration en r\u00e9examinant l'incarc\u00e9ration d'une personne, est inhumaine. Cela ne devrait pas avoir sa place dans le syst\u00e8me juridique canadien.<\/p>\n
